Tips for getting started with Unix

When using Unix we suggest installing Fedora Linux or CentOS. We suggest these two flavors of Linux over ones such as Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE, Slackware, etc. because the majority of servers used by businesses today run Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Fedora and CentOS are the open source versions of Red Hat. This allows you to become accustom to how Red Hat works without having to pay the Enterprise fees. For those that want to try out Linux, but don't want to install Linux on their computer, you can use Cygwin. Cygwin is a Linux emmulator that allows you to use a collection of Linux tools on a Windows environment. Linux is important because most clients use some flavor of Unix/Linux on their servers.
